Get Involved
excited to get involved?
Whether you want to be a youth participant, volunteer helper, or career staff member… there’s lots of ways you might be able to get involved in The Shop program! Scroll down to find exciting ways for YOU to connect.
Youth
Youth Mentoring
In this 6-hour program, youth aged 15-25 will get hands on experience working on basic automotive, small engines, carpentry, detailing, welding and other trades. The youth will work one-on-one with a mentor in a safe and supportive environment. The content of the mentorship will be tailor-made to fit the interests and ability of the youth.
Other than getting basic skills working with tools, this is a great chance for youth to find their talents and interests. Careers in engineer, automation, mechanics and even design would require a person to work with tools. This is a great opportunity to explore whether an environment which requires working with the hands is suitable.
The hours can be counted towards their community service hours at school. Participants will be assessed for their suitability to continue with other opportunities in our program.
Work Experience
In this work experience program, youth will work at The Shop or with one of our social enterprise partners. The students get to experience working in real business settings while closely supervised by a mentor. The experience has been invaluable to many participants. The prerequisite to this program is that the youth must have gone through our mentorship program and have been recommended by the instructor to join the work experience program.
Job Placement
In this program, participants can get help building and printing a resume, and get 1:1 assistance in finding a job in their community.
If you are 18 – 25 years old and having difficulties or need help, and are interested in our program, please call us at (905) 836-1433 or text (289) 383-1716 to book an orientation.
Volunteer
Ready to make an impact? The Shop thrives thanks to the passion and dedication of both staff and volunteers, delivering a dynamic, well-resourced program. There are countless ways you can get involved and contribute to something bigger. Here’s how:
- Vehicle Donation Advocacy – Partner with automotive dealers or engage the public to drive donations.
- Fundraising & Awareness Event Coordination – Help organize events that fuel our mission and spread the word.
- Prayer & Communication – Unite with partner organizations in prayer and stay connected for ongoing support.
- Skilled Assistance – From towing (D class license required) to mechanical expertise (AST certification mandatory), your skills can make a huge difference.
- Helpers – Prefer short-term or immediate impact? Focus on specific, urgent needs as they arise. Helpers perform tasks such as supplying meals for youth & staff, collecting materials for shop use, or cleaning our facilities.
- Direct Financial Contributions – Your generosity helps us keep moving forward! Make a financial donation, arrange a fundraising activity, or advocate for others to contribute. All donations get a charitable tax receipt, and 100% of the funds are allocated to The Shop ministry fund to help us deliver programming to local vulnerable youth.
